OPINION: 0716/2014 - THE NEW WORLD DIS-ORDER

Right now, there seems to be a new flurry of crises around the world and as usual the United States is right in the middle of all of it.

THE UKRAINE:  President Obama even as we speak is ordering a new round of sanctions against Russia over the escalation instead of DE-escalation in the Ukraine. The European Union is expected to follow suit although their sanctions will be considerably less intense than ours. The scope of these new sanctions directed at Russian banks and the energy sector have the potential to produce a seriously damaging ripple effect in the Russian economy. The wild card is...what will Putin do in response? Stay tuned.

THE MIDDLE EAST-I:  The ages-old Arab-Israeli conflict has escalated in recent days, thanks to the intransigence of the Hamas government. Thanks to Hamas not accepting the Egyptian-led peace talks call for a cease-fire, the world community is considerably more on Israel's side INCLUDING in the Middle East. Again, stay tuned.

GERMANY: Talks over sanctions with German Chancellor Angela Merkel  were icier than usual thanks to the revelations relating to the spying allegations and admissions of same by the United States. Merkel is said to be furious, and mystified that when President Obama talked to her over a week ago, he didn't even know about it. It remains to be soon how long this will last, barring any FURTHER allegations surfacing. Stay tuned.

IRAQ:  A continuing problem pushed to the back burner by other world events. The world may just be REALLY SICK of Iraq. Stay tuned.

IRAN:  The United States and Iran are pursuing the possibility of extending the time allotted for this first round of peace talks. The deadline is set for Sunday July 20th, but stay tuned. Extension is likely.
